Ranchi, May 8: The deputy commissioner of Ranchi is apparently drawing flak from almost every quarter for failing to incorporate Mahendra Singh Dhoni into the School Chalen Hum Abhiyan.

With the Ranchi Rambo saying that he was completely in the dark about such a campaign, questions are now being raised on how the deputy commissioner, Pradeep Kumar, could have told the media about the swashbuckling cricketer?s participation at a news conference on the eve of the campaign.

At present, the district education department officers do not wish to comment on this other than clarifying that ?it was Kumar who was dealing with the matter? of involving Dhoni in the week-long campaign that began in the last week of April.

Although the news conference was also attended by deputy development commissioner and the district superintendent of education, the officials had no logic to offer as to why Dhoni was not there in the campaign to enroll dropouts even after the announcement.

The officials said that they did not have any information on the deal with the cricketer.

Deputy development commissioner M.P. Das told The Telegraph: ?I have no information regarding the episode and it was the deputy commissioner who was dealing with the matter to contact Dhoni.?

Although district superintendent of education Pradeep Choubey acknowledged the fact that the deputy commissioner had held a news meet to convey the information about Dhoni?s participation, he, however, said that he would not like to comment on the issue.

?The deputy commissioner had told newspersons that the administration was trying to rope in Dhoni in this campaign. Although I would not be able to say much about it as the deputy commissioner himself was personally looking after it, there must have been some communication gap somewhere,? said Choubey.

The human resource department officials, however, said they did not have any knowledge about this as it was being done at the deputy commissioner?s level.

The officials pointed out that Dhoni was kept in mind for this particular campaign as his presence would have given an impetus to the social cause.

On the other hand, director of primary education S.K. Sharma said the department had not approached Dhoni and it was being looked after by the deputy commissioner only. ?I would not like to comment on why and how the thing did not work out,? said Sharma.

Pradeep Kumar, however, could not be contacted and all attempts to trace him remained futile.

District public relations officer Mukul Lakra said the deputy commissioner is on leave at present.
