Jamshedpur, Oct. 29: Tension gripped Usha Martin Works at Gamharia in Seraikela-Kharsawan as a 25-year old mechanical engineer, Daniel Das, died while on duty in the wee hours of today, reports our correspondent.

The victim’s uncle Bipin Das has demanded Rs 20 lakh as compensation, threatening to lock up the company’s gates tomorrow if the management failed to pay up.

Company sources said the accident occurred at the mini blast furnace around 4 am when Das was the night shift in-charge. He was rushed to Tata Main Hospital, where doctors declared him “brought dead”. From Orissa, Das was with Usha Martin for the last three years. Usha Martin spokesperson Gopal Sharan said they are investigating.
