Cultural tribute to Swamiji - Seminar, poster contest on National Youth Day

Jamshedpur, Jan. 12: It was a day to remember Swami Vivekananda and his ideologies and students of the steel city did that through a variety of programmes.

Karim City College organised a poster competition to showcase students’ ideas on heritage of the country. About 100 students participated in the poster competition on the theme “Preservation of cultural and architectural heritage of India”. The posters depicted various monuments of India with slogans on them.

“Since Swami Vivekananda was one of the nation builders, we wanted to the youngsters to relate to him through this contest. Our monuments and culture are our identity and thus students through their posters depicted the ways we can adopts to save them,” said Ahmed Badr, a professor of Karim City.

Principal of the college Mohammad Zakaria asked the students to take an oath that they would protect and preserve the cultural and architectural heritage of India.

A cultural programme was also organised where students presented folk dance and song of various states in India. Classical performances were also a part of the programme. M.A. Makki, in charge of BEd department of the college, gave a lecture on Swami Vivekananda.

On the other hand, Jamshedpur Women’s College organised a seminar on National Youth Day to make students aware of the contribution of Swami Vivekananda. Students from wellness management department, BEd, MEd and home science department took part in the seminar. About five students presented their views on Swami Vivekananda.

Shukla Mahanty, the principal of Jamshedpur Women’s College, said: “We are in an age when youth have deviated from the path of intellect and spirituality and we are treading on crime and restlessness. The example of Swamiji would help them to know themselves and their power to change the world.”

The objective of the seminar was to show how personalities like Swamiji could help the society, she added.
