A health department ambulance, which was accompanied by a police team, faced resistance when it reached Hindpiri in the city to take to isolation centres 12 persons who had been in contact with persons who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
The 11 confirmed cases in the state capital have all been found from Hindpiri. Due to this, the locality has been declared a hotspot and sealed off.
A police official said locality residents initially did not allow health department officials to take the persons away at night and told them to come during the day.
“After some argument and discussion between locality residents and health department officials, the residents became angry and resorted to stone pelting. Senior police officials had to intervene,” the police official said. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anish Gupta said it took around two hours to convince the residents.
“Though there was stone pelting, it was minor. No one sustained injury. After two hours of effort, the suspects could be taken for isolation at RIMS,” SSP Gupta said.
