Bhubaneswar, Nov. 12: Rejuvenated by its recent bypoll victory over the NDA, the Orissa Congress hopes to pin down the government on some recent developments when the winter session of the Assembly begins tomorrow.
Leader of Opposition J.B. Patnaik said the Opposition parties would launch a scathing attack on the government over the deteriorating law and order situation, the Jagannath temple tragedy and the killing of DIG Jaswinder Singh. The session would conclude on November 30.
“The BJD-BJP government has lost the moral right to rule the state as it has been rejected by the people in the Talsara bypoll,” he said after sitting through a meeting of the Congress legislature party.
The Congress retained Talsara with party nominee Prafulla Majhi defeating the BJP’s Sahadeb Xaxa by 2,574 votes.
The government would move the first supplementary budget of Rs 3,600 crore during the session to fund the Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana and grant-in-aid of private college teachers.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik, who chaired a joint BJD-BJP legislature party meeting this evening, said the treasury bench was prepared to give a “fitting reply” to the Opposition’s contentions.
“We will also discuss issues of state interest like construction of the Polavaram irrigation project by the Andhra Pradesh government and the Centre’s attitude towards the KBK region and the flood-hit people of Orissa,” he said.
