DAV Public School-Bistupur may have just launched Jamshedpur's first students' start-up.
Pranshu Kumar (17), Ravi Shankar (16) and Ashish Sinha (17), all belonging to Class XII, have launched QuiZense (quiz sense), an outfit to host competitions, with the aim of registering it in the near future.
"We will register our firm once we are 18. We have been passionate quizzers for more than five years, which instilled this idea of starting a firm based on quizzing. Entrepreneurs generally start late, but we do not want to waste time. We will continue to organise quiz competitions alongside our studies because that's our passion," explained Pranshu.
On Tuesday, Pranshu played quiz master as QuiZense held its maiden open quiz, " Infinite-I" with 16 schools from Jamshedpur taking part along with NIT-Adityapur.
More than 30 students were in attendance, divided into six teams-- two from NIT-Jamshedpur, two from DAV Public School-Bistupur, one from Motilal Nehru Public School and a mixed team comprising students from DAV Public School and Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya.
Questions across five rounds ranged from various cultures and time periods, like, say: What is the Japanese term for "empty orchestra"? Who renders his voice for reality show Big Boss? Which e-commerce company takes its name from a citrus fruit? Which was the original place of Smith Folly in the outer lawns of the Qutab Minar in Delhi?
The team from NIT-Adityapur, represented by Ravi Shankar Kumar and Sourav, were declared winners, followed by DAV Public-Bistupur, represented by Siddharth Shankar Kahali and Rupam Kumar Dubey. Both teams received cash prizes.
"It is a student start-up and I think as a principal, I should promote it. This is a culture prevalent in the west and when students came and approached me I encouraged them," said Pragya Singh, principal of DAV Public School, Bistupur.
The trio, who graduate from school next year and join colleges, has been regularly conducting intra-school quiz competitions. They don't want to give up, ever.
"It is a small world and we can stay connected through mail, skype and whatsapp. Wherever we are, we would love to promote our organisation, QuiZense. Though everybody would appear for JEE, but at some point of time, we hope, this will click. After we complete our education, we can be entrepreneurs," said Ashish Sinha.
