Jamshedpur, June 6: After casting its spell over children across the country, Chota Jadugar, the three-dimensional (3-D) movie, spun its magical web around the city today.

Braving the sweltering heat, hundreds of movie buffs queued up in front of the current counter at Payal Cinema for the matinee show tickets.

The first show was delayed by about an hour due to a technical snag. However, the 1,500 audience, comprising mostly children, waited patiently.

“I have only heard of 3-D movies but have never seen one in my life. When my father told me last night about the screening of the film at Payal Cinema. I immediately called up my friends. I am so excited. I can’t wait to see the movie,” said Julie Sharma as she waited in the serpentine queue.

“The special effects and the digital sound will draw a large number of cinema lovers, especially children,” she added.

After Shiva Ka Insaaf, which was screened in the city in 1984, this is the second three- dimensional film to be released in the city. The Jackie Shroff starer Shiva Ka Insaaf evoked a good response and was screened simultaneously at two halls — Payal and Shyam Talkies.

Chota Jadugar is being screened on a special screen measuring 22 feet with lens supplied by the Calcutta-based distributor, A.K. Movies. The distributor has also supplied 1,500 pair of 3-D spectacle.

The management of Payal Cinema had a harrowing time controlling the crowd, which turned up for the first day first show.

According to the Jharkhand Cinematographers Association, Chota Jadugar is the fourth 3-D film made in India after Shiva Ka Insaaf, Chota Chetan and Mahashaktimaan.

“Three-dimensional films are a big hit among children throughout the country. In 3-D films, you feel as if you can touch the characters ... everything seems so real that it is a treat watching such movies,” an official of the association said.

Directed by Jose Punnoose, Chota Jadugar revolves around the adventures of a boy, played by Indrajeet, who learns magic from his grandfather.

The movie becomes interesting when the boy’s father, who lives in New York, takes him there.

In New York, the boy comes under the influence of bad elements and one day he gets kidnapped.

However, Indrajeet’s pet dog rescues him from the evil clutches of the criminals. The story ends on a happy note with the boy returning back to his grandfather.

After seeing the film, Julie said: “I loved it. Indrajeet was superb. He is so cute. I will see the film again with my parents and sister. I think I will see it tomorrow itself. The special effects were marvellous. After a long time I have seen a good children’s film. Kudos to the maker of Chota Jadugar.”
