Dhanbad, Dec. 12: Chas Municipal Corporation (CMC) plans to extend its door-to-door garbage collection facility to all 35 wards and floated a tender today.
The corporation, at present, offers the service to just 16 of its wards.
It is also looking for land to develop it as its main dumping site and install a garbage recycling plant.
Speaking to The Telegraph today, chief executive officer (CEO) of CMC Krishna Kumar said, "We are facilitating door-to-door collection of household waste in 16 wards of Chas through local agency Ayush. We are also collecting user charges, as prescribed by the State Urban Development Agency, ranging from Rs 20 to Rs 20,000 per month."
He further said that they were in the process of developing a permanent dumping site, where a recycling plant, as part of the solid waste management project, would come up.
Notably, Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) is also facing land crisis for developing the main dumping site. The 37-acre land, provided by BCCL for dumping garbage and setting up garbage recycling plant, could not be developed due to protest by local residents and also due to BCCL's reluctance in offering a longer period of lease for the land.
The DMC, last month, passed a resolution to acquire 100 acres of land for developing a garbage dumping yard. It is in the process of finalising a piece of land near Tundi.
