Ranchi, June 27: An MoU in the cement sector has been signed in the state as Bengal-based Burnpur Cement Company has finalised its plans to pump in nearly Rs 500 crore to establish an integrated cement plant.
The company had signed the MoU with the state government in March this year.
Burnpur Cement Company will be the third cement major in the state to undertake the production work.
Jamshedpur-based Larfarge and Jhikpani-based Associated Cement Company (ACC) are the two other cement companies ? both located in Singhbhum ? to be presently operational in the state.
The state-of-the-art cement plant of Burnpur Cement Company shall be located in Patratu industrial area under the Ranchi Industrial Development Authority Area (Riada).
The Riada has provided about 60 acres for the plant.
The customary buomi pujan ceremony for establishing the plant is slated to take place tomorrow.
Chief minister Arjun Munda was supposed to grace the occasion but could not make it following his engagements at Delhi. But the local legislator Loknath Mahto and the Riada chairman Surya Mani Singh, along with senior government officials, would be present during the event.
Burnpur Cement Company will be making the investments in two phases. ?We will commence work soon after the Bhumi Pujan. The commercial production will start by the end of next year. Initially, we have planned to manufacture one million ton per annum,? company sources said.
Unlike the company?s Bengal unit, the plant in Jharkhand will produce three different varieties of cement.
?In the Bengal unit, the Burnpur Cement Company produces cement for the construction of houses. But in Jharkhand, we will produce cement for the construction of dams and railway equipment,? sources said.
