Ranchi is all set to host another one-day international — its third big-ticket show after the India-England ODI and twin IPL matches — at the sprawling Dhurwa greens on October 23.
Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) vice-president Manoj Kumar confirmed that the world-class stadium had bagged a match date for the bilateral series between India and Australia.
“We received a communiqué from the BCCI this (Wednesday) morning. The seven-day series is scheduled from October 10 to November 2. Ranchi will host the fourth game at the JSCA International Cricket Complex on October 23. The day-and-night tie will start at 2.30pm,” said Kumar, who is also the state cricket outfit’s media manager.
He added that though the capital had been included as a venue by the BCCI’s fixture committee in May, the match date was finalised only on Wednesday.
Besides Ranchi, the series will also be played in Bangalore, Pune, Mohali, Nagpur, Jaipur and Cuttack. “There will be a warm-up T20 match in Rajkot on October 10. The ODIs will kick-start from Pune on October 13. Jaipur will host a match on October 16, Mohali on October 19, Cuttack on October 26, Nagpur on October 30 and Bangalore on November 2,” the senior JSCA official said.
On January 19 this year, the new stadium in Dhurwa had debuted as an ODI venue, with an India-England match and Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his boys had handed out a humiliating defeat to Team Alastair Cook.
The 35-acre cricket complex also proved a tad lucky for the Kolkata Knight Riders in their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. SRK’s Knights, however, lost to Pune Warriors India — which has now been withdrawn following the spot-fixing scandal — in the second IPL tie in Ranchi.
The JSCA vice-president maintained that the BCCI had rewarded the association for its good venue and game management in the two earlier occasions.
“The first ODI was the biggest challenge, but it went off well without glitches. The entire cricket fraternity gave positive feedback. Though IPL franchisees had the onus of organising matches in case of the T20 tourney, Team JSCA played the role of facilitator and played it well,” Kumar said.
He added: “The BCCI has entrusted us with a back-to-back series, which is almost unheard of in the history of cricket venues.”
Meanwhile, fixtures of the 2013-14 edition of Ranji Trophy were also finalised two days ago.
Three pools have been constituted with nine teams in each. Jharkhand is in Pool A and will play against Delhi, Haryana, Mumbai, Gujarat, Karnataka, Odisha, Haryana and Vidarbha.
