Capital date with khadi

Capital residents can look forward to ring in Christmas and New Year at the upcoming Khadi Saras Mela at Morabadi grounds from December 22 to January 7.

Ranchi: Capital residents can look forward to ring in Christmas and New Year at the upcoming Khadi Saras Mela at Morabadi grounds from December 22 to January 7.

The fair, being organised by Jharkhand State Khadi and Village Industries Board to mark the completion of three years of the Raghubar Das government on December 28, will have over 700 stalls.

"We plan to make the fair the biggest in the country. The timing of the fair is perfect to celebrate Christmas and also mark the the Raghubar Das government's three-year milestone," board chairman Sanjay Seth told the media at Udyog Bhavan in Ranchi on Friday.

Apart from about 700 stalls of khadi products and rural handicrafts from across the country, the fair will have kiosks showcasing spinning on wheels and weaving on handlooms.

There will food stalls, in addition to around 18 amusement rides for children. For the elderly, the organisers plan to introduce e-rickshaw facility. Besides, programmes representing the culture of various states will keep the audience entertained on all days of the fair from 3pm to 6pm.

"This year we will introduce cashless payment facilities like Paytm and swiping machines. We have also invited several stage artistes who will perform at the fair," added Seth.

The fair will be open from 10am to 9pm and entry fee will be Rs 10 per person.

Capital residents are already excited.

"After Diwali and Chhath we have another reason to rejoice. I am looking forward to spending Christmas and New Year's eve at the fair. I plan to buy lots of handloom and handicraft products for my family," said Dinesh Agarwal, a dry fruits dealer.
