Jamshedpur, June 11: The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) has good news in store for senior citizens, freedom fighters and students.
The corporation is likely to give this select lot a concession for travelling their buses in the state.
To attract more passengers the BSRTC authorities are toying with the idea of resuming concession facility, which it had withdrawn in 1995.
A senior official of the corporation on the condition of anonymity told The Telegraph that as per the proposed plan the freedom fighters and senior citizens would get 50 per cent reduction in the fare, while students community would get a concession of 20 per cent.
The facility was withdrawn due to the non-payment of bills drawn on the concession slips by the then Bihar government which had amounted to several crore.
Sources from BSRTC’s headquarter in Patna said the new administrator of the corporation A.K. Upadhyay has initiated the work by organising several rounds of meetings with concerned authorities.
The Bihar Government has agreed to pay off its dues to the corporation in instalments, sources said.
The corporation is working out plans to implement monthly season tickets for the passengers, said the official.
Sources said Supreme Court, which is currently monitoring the affairs of the corporation, in one of its hearing had directed the corporation to introduce new buses by selling the old ones to boost up its revenue.
The Apex Court had also suggested the corporation to re-implement the concession facility.
When contacted, V.K. Singh, divisional manager, based at the corporation’s Gaya depot, said: “Resuming the concession facility would definitely draw more passengers. This would help generate more revenue for the corporation.”
