Charcoal strokes

Dhanbad: The Rotary Club of Dhanbad, in association with Interact Club of Delhi Public School, organised a pencil and charcoal sketching competition, as part of Rotary Club's eye donation awareness programme, on the campus on Friday.

As many as 50 students of Classes IX to XII from Dhanbad Public School, Carmel School, De Nobili School Sijua and DAV Public School Koylanagar took part.

Award trip

Bokaro: Principal of Chinmaya Vidyalaya Ashok Singh left for Delhi on Friday to receive the President Award that will be conferred on him on September 5. Singh, along with the principal of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School, Ranchi, Manohar Lal, has been selected from Jharkhand for the prestigious award.

Fuel meet

Dhanbad: Members of Dhanbad District Petroleum Dealers Association, under the leadership of Ashok Singh, held a meeting at Saraidhela, 6km from here, on Friday. The members expressed their resentment over the poor quality of petrol being sold at many petrol pumps.

Accident

Dhanbad: A sand truck collided head-on with a bus near Jharia depot, 10km from the district headquarters, on Friday. Though no one was injured in the accident, the front side of both vehicles were damaged.

Blockade

Dhanbad: Traffic came to a halt from 6am to 8am on Govindpur-Tundi road after a truck carrying coal suffered a snag and hit a road divider.

Body at factory

A 30-year-old man's headless body was found along rail tracks inside Tata Steel Works in Bistupur, Jamshedpur, on Friday.

His head was found at a distance, suggesting he might have died in a locomotive mishap on Thursday night. Bistupur OC Anuj Kumar said they were trying to identify the body, which they suspected to be of a thief.

Felicitation

East Singhbhum DPRO Sanjay Kumar was felicitated by state information and public relations department at Suchana Bhavan, Ranchi, on Friday for his exemplary work of installing nameplates of girls at their homes in a Potka village in the district as part of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign. Actor Anupam Kher handed over the certificate to him.

Snatching

A 25-year-old man snatched a gold chain from an elderly woman at New Kasidih in Sakchi, Jamshedpur, on Friday. Her son Siddharth Sarkar has lodged an FIR at Sakchi thana. Police said the youth had come on a scooter near the gates of Sarkar's house, asking for an address when his mother had come forward to help him.

Theft

As many as 25 truck tyres worth Rs 7 lakh were stolen from the godown of a shop, situated along NH-33 in Ulidih, Jamshedpur, in the wee hours of Friday.

MCI team at RIMS

A two-member team from the Medical Council of India (MCI) invigilated the ongoing MBBS finals at RIMS, Ranchi, on Friday.

Dr Bhadresh R. Vyas of MP Shah Medical College in Jamnagar, Gujarat and Dr Jagdish B. Hedawoo of Government Medical College in Nagpur, Maharashtra, reached around 9am during the viva for paediatrics, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology and medicine students. The MBBS finals started on August 31.

Girl rescued

A 15-year-old girl from Bengal was rescued by the RPF from platform one of Hatia station on Friday. Officer-in-charge Vijay Pandey said the girl was found crying and could not recall how she reached Hatia. She was handed over to voluntary outfit Childline.

BAU VC hunt

The state government on Friday officially began scouting for a new head for Birsa Agricultural University, Kanke, 45 days after incumbent vice chancellor George John requested the governor to relieve him. An advertisement for the post has been published in newspapers. Interested candidates have been asked to respond within 21 days.

Liquor haul 

The RPF on Thursday night recovered 27 bottles of foreign liquor from platform three of Hatia station. Officer-in-charge Vijay Pandey said the bottles of whisky were kept in two bags under a bench. 

Bundu report

Ranchi: Jharkhand High Court on Friday directed the state government to submit a report on the investigation done on Rupesh Swansi's custodial death at Bundu thana.

The bench has directed the DGP to file an affidavit in this matter after going through the CID report.

Pistol arrests

Latehar: Two criminals -Meraj Ansari and Muslim Ansari - were arrested from Chandwa area in Latehar on Thursday evening. A pistol, cartridges and a motorcycle were found on them.

Promotion

Ranchi: Gumla district supply officer Vinod Shankar Mishra has been promoted to SDO rank with retrospective effect from December 24, 2005. He would, however, be getting financial and other benefits from the date of assuming his new charge.

ISO tag

Ranchi: The information and public relations department on Friday became the state government's first department to secure ISO 9000 - 2015 certificate.

Football

Ranchi: Jharkhand finished third in the 1st School Sports Promotion Foundation sponsored national meet in Delhi on Friday. Haryana emerged winner while Bihar remained runner- up.
