COMFORT ON TRACKS: Tatanagar station

Jamshedpur: A plush executive waiting lounge is coming up at Tatanagar station and it promises to include cosy sofas and recliners, LCD television sets, complimentary newspapers and beverages and train information displays.

In an effort to improve passenger amenities at the A 1-category Tatanagar railway station, the Chakradharpur railway division has decided to rope in Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for setting up what will be a paid air-conditioned lounge where passengers can wait for trains in comfort.

"We have started discussions with IRCTC for the high-end facility for passengers. We are in the process of identifying a suitable place at the station. After finalising the place, we will sign an agreement with IRCTC which will run the facility," senior divisional commercial manager of Chakradharpur railway division Bhaskar told The Telegraph .

According to the senior DCM, who is also the railway spokesperson, any bona fide passenger irrespective of class of travel (first AC, second AC or third AC) could use the executive lounge. "It will be a paid service and the rates will be decided by IRCTC," he added.

An official at Tatanagar railway station's commercial department said that the AC lounge would be the only one of its kind in the Chakradharpur division. "No station under this division has an executive lounge," said the official, adding that a team from IRCTC was expected to inspect Tatanagar railway station and hold discussions with railway authorities soon.

Yet another addition for passengers is being planed.

The IRCTC-run Jan Ahaar cafeteria located on the first floor of the main station building, will come up with a base kitchen for supplying meals for passengers travelling in high-profile trains like Howrah-Mumbai Duronto and Howrah-Pune Duronto, that pass through Tatanagar.

Sources at the station said that a two-member IRCTC team had inspected the cafeteria on Monday. "The base kitchen would start in January 2018. Apart from the two Duronto trains, meals would be supplied to other long-distance trains. including Rajdhani Express, once the facility starts," said an official of Tatanagar railway's commercial section.

Tatanagar station, which is on the Howrah-Mumbai main line, witnesses a daily traffic of 90-odd mail, express and other high-profile trains. The busiest station under Chakradharpur railway division, it witnesses a daily footfall of around 50,000 passengers.
