4500 from state taste JEE success

Around 4,500 candidates out of 7,000 from the state cleared this year's JEE Advanced, the results of which were declared by IIT-Kanpur on Sunday.

Jamshedpur/Dhanbad: Around 4,500 candidates out of 7,000 from the state cleared this year's JEE Advanced, the results of which were declared by IIT-Kanpur on Sunday.

As many as 2,000 from Ranchi appeared for the prestigious exam on May 20, but only 150 qualified. From Jamshedpur, 200 out of 854 candidates cracked the test.

Aayush Agarwal (18), a student of DBMS English School in Kadma, emerged as the state and steel city topper with an all-India rank of 60 and a score of 283/360. He was coached by Prerna Classes and Narayana IIT Academy. "It is a dream come true. I plan to take admission in computer science at IIT-Bombay," Aayush said.

Ranchi topper Shaan-ul-Haque, a student of Delhi Public School, secured a rank of 111. Aman Kumar Singh and Pratik Prawar, also from the same school, were ranked 148 and 152, respectively.

Around 50 students have cracked the exam from the cradle. "It is indeed a matter of immense pride for the school," DPS principal Ram Singh said.

Rahul Kumar Tiwary, a student of Jamshedpur Public School, Baridih, got an all-India rank of 122 by scoring 268. "I had put in a lot of effort and was expecting a rank among the top 50," said the 17-year-old who aspires to study electrical engineering at IIT-Bombay.

Rishabh Ranjan, a student of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Bokaro, and son of a senior BCCL manager, emerged district topper by securing a rank of 154.

Shubham Kar, a student of DAV Public School, Bistupur, cracked the JEE Advanced by securing a rank of 243 with a score of 242.

Shyam Bhushan, director of Narayana IIT Academy, said he was satisfied with the overall results, but was expecting better numbers. "We are still compiling the results," he said.
