Ranchi: Five persons were killed and at least 15, including Bharno (Gumla) BDO Sheetal Kumari and her driver Md Ekram, were injured in four separate road accidents that rocked the state late on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Sheetal was on her way to the Gumla district headquarters to take part in a workshop on Vision 2022 on Wednesday when the front left wheel of her allegedly speeding SUV came off near a bridge over Nagpheni rivulet, around 12km from town.
The car rolled down the road for some distance before coming to a stop. The two were rushed to sadar hospital, where senior officials of the district administration, including DC Shravan Kumar Sai, dropped by to enquire about their well-being.
"They were given first aid at sadar hospital. There is no threat to their life. Sheetal has fractures on her leg, waist and injuries on head and other parts of the body. Ekram, too, has sustained multiple injuries. They have been shifted to RIMS," Sai told The Telegraph.
In Seraikela area, two persons were killed after their bike rolled down a bridge late on Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Rajan Kalindi (35) and his cousin Majnu Kalindi (32). Police suspect that their bike was either hit by an unidentified vehicle or it was the outcome of drunk driving.
Their bodies have been sent to Seraikela Sadar hospital for post-mortem on Wednesday.
Another three persons were killed and seven injured after their van rammed against a tree along Bano-Manoharpur Road in Simdega on Wednesday. Police have rushed to the spot and began rescue work.
In Sadar police station area of Daltonganj, five to six persons were injured after their auto-rickshaw was hit by a bus. DSP Heeralal Ravi said the victims hadn't lodged a complaint yet.
