• NEW DELHI: Delhi High Court on Friday asked the Centre and the AAP government to place before it the rules on the display of just the State Emblem of India on the cars of the constitutional authorities and dignitaries instead of registration numbers. It directed the governments to check the position and inform it before the next date of hearing on December 20. The directive came on a plea seeking to enforce the display of registration number on cars of constitutional authorities and dignitaries. PTI
Defecation clash
• ALIGARH: Five persons were injured in a clash over open defecation in Uttar Pradesh's Buransi village. A number of villagers, mostly Dalits, used to defecate in a field owned by Satyapal Singh, who belongs to an an upper caste and had been objecting to it. Police said the matter reached a flash point on Thursday, resulting in the clash between the groups. PTI
Efficient station
• HYDERABAD: Kacheguda in Hyderabad has earned the distinction of being the first energy-efficient A1 category railway station in the country, the South Central Railway has said. The station has achieved 100 per cent energy efficiency by replacing 1,312 conventional lights with LED and 370 ceiling fans as well as 12 air conditioners with energy efficient alternatives. PTI
Editor arrested
• BANGALORE: Editor of a Kannada tabloid, Ravi Belagere, has been arrested for criminal conspiracy as he allegedly hired a contract killer to eliminate a former junior colleague due to "personal reasons". Police sources said Belagere offered money to a contract killer to kill Sunil Heggaravalli, a former journalist with his tabloid Hi Bangalore.

• PHAGWARA: Three head constables of a sub-jail in Punjab's Phagwara were suspended for alleged dereliction of duty following escape of two under-trials, police said on Friday. PTI

• BAHRAICH: Three persons were injured in a leopard attack at Khairipurva village in Uttar Pradesh, forest officials said. The villagers were attacked by the leopardess that had lost its cub on Thursday. PTI
NE student killed in Punjab
• PHAGWARA: A 21-year-old engineering student from Shillong died and his friend seriously injured after they were allegedly assaulted by their neighbours, who claimed the boys were having a loud birthday celebration in Punjab's Phagwara, police said on Friday. The incident happened on Thursday night. The accused - Rahul Kumar and his younger brother Ashok Kumar - allegedly assaulted the students with blunt objects, including a baseball bat, the police added. The duo have been arrested. Four other accused are absconding, the police said. PTI
10-year jail for rape
• THANE: A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for assaulting and raping a waitress after following her in 2016. A fine of Rs 15,000 has also been slapped on Ajay Chaurasiya. The judge said the fine would be paid as compensation to the victim. PTI
Mass leave
• JAIPUR: Government in-service doctors and employees in Rajasthan went on a day's mass leave on Friday, asking the state to implement the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission. They alleged that the state government was sitting on an announcement to provide them the benefits with effect from January 1, 2016. PTI

• PANAJI: A mobile food-testing laboratory, which will enable on-the-spot safety tests, will be launched in Goa by chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday. "This is the first "food safety on wheel" mobile laboratory in the country," food and drugs administration minister Vishwajit Rane said on Thursday. PTI

• KANPUR: Six people were killed and nine injured on Friday after a truck ploughed into another sand-laden vehicle coming from the opposite direction while trying to save some people near the Sajeti police station area here. PTI
