New Delhi, June 10: On Twitter at least, NaMo has trumped LKA hands down.
Narendra Modi’s over 17 lakh followers today went on overdrive, tweeting why 85-year-old BJP leader L.K. Advani’s resignation from party posts was a step forward for young India.
“King is Dead, Long Live the new King,” tweeted ddthroat, who called himself a war veteran and a sports analyst.
Delhi-based blogger Ankit Kothari blamed age for what he termed Advani’s resignation “drama”.
“Advani resigns who cares? Modi is the best bet for BJP to be in power on 2014. Advani doesn’t realise this! May be the age factor!” he tweeted.
Others tweeted that they would not vote for the BJP if party boss Rajnath Singh bowed to Advani’s whims.
“Dear Rajnath Singh Do not give undue ‘bhaav’ to #LKA & Gang. Send strong signal to Party and NDA partners. It is now or never,” tweeted Mannu Makhania, a “hardcore Gujrati and a Namo fan”.
Adman Suhel Seth was more direct. “The BJP should declare the next 7 days as Samarpan-Hafta. Those wanting to go, go. Those wanting to stay, win 2014. Simple. Enough natak!” he tweeted.
“Rajnath Singh and his ilk should stop this hypocrisy! Silently they are relieved... so is the RSS! So why this nautanki? Get on with 2014!”
A tweet from Shweta, a Delhi student, showed how youngsters were picking Modi over Advani. “He is too old, he should just retire and maybe sleep off the rest of his life. The problem is that people like him have so much of ambition that they have to be pushed out,” she wrote.
Bangalore-based blogger Vijay agreed with Shweta. “The real ‘feku’ is the person who claims he or she doesn’t want power and then works for the exact opposite,” he tweeted.
Another Modi fan who tweets with the handle, UP4Modi, asked: “Mr Advani why did not resign in 2009 when BJP lost badly? Were you not leading in 2009?”
Another blogger termed Advani’s resignation his “wrath yatra”.
Only a handful of people on Twitter spoke against Modi. IITian Anukool Srivastava tweeted: “Keshubhai, Haren Pandya, now Advani... jo Modi se takrayega...? Unka kya hoga?”
Mumbai-based Abhishekh Sharma, a “sensitive liberal Indian” using the Twitter handle, FekuBuster, wrote: “BJP has become ‘Advani Mukt’. How many more wickets to go before the nation becomes ‘Modi Mukt’?”
Sharma had something to tell the Congress too. “Congress should just watch the circus unfold. RingMaster gone, Clowns left. Just watch and enjoy!”
A Delhi-based surgeon who tweets with the handle, Abe Yaar, wrote what he thought Atal Bihari Vajpayee would say about the day’s events: “Yeh Acchi baat nahin hai!”
