Oct. 19: The CBI today carried out searches at a host of premises linked to Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani in connection with the Sheena Bora murder case as part of a coordinated swoop across cities, including Mumbai, Calcutta and Guwahati.
A team also quizzed Sujit Mohan Sarkar, the bodyguard of a Calcutta-based businessman, at his Beleghata home.
This was the first time that CBI sleuths had come down to the city in connection with the probe since the central agency took over from Mumbai police last month.
Sources said the teams searched four residences of former STAR India CEO Peter and Indrani, two each in Mumbai and Goa; Indrani's ancestral home in Guwahati, the houses of her former driver Shyamvar Rai in Mumbai and Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, and the Calcutta residence of Sanjeev Khanna, Indrani's former husband.
Indrani has been arrested on the charge of murdering her daughter Sheena three years ago. Fellow suspects Khanna and Rai are also in custody.
A CBI team visited Khanna's Calcutta residence in Hastings and seized several documents during a search that lasted several hours. Another team reached Sarkar's Beleghata house this morning and scanned his ground-floor office for documents, including one on his appointment as the city-based businessman's bodyguard. Sarkar, 35, runs a business of providing security personnel.
Sarkar, questioned for over four hours, is alleged to have flown to Mumbai a few years ago to meet Peter and Indrani at the behest of his employer. Taken to Mumbai for questioning by a Mumbai police team last month, Sarkar denied that he knew the Mukerjeas after he returned to Calcutta.
Around the time he spoke, Mumbai police had told a local court that a plot was also hatched to kill Sheena's brother Mikhail in Calcutta in 2012.
A CBI team also questioned Mikhail and Siddhartha Das, the biological father of Sheena and her brother, in Guwahati today.
A CBI source said the searches were part of a "coordinated" move.
