Virat Kohli got out for a first-ball duck and his team was bundled out for the lowest score in IPL history as KKR romped home to a famous win at the Eden Gardens on Sunday night. Chasing a target of 132, Royal Challengers Bangalore was dismissed for 49 in the 10th over. Four fast bowlers picked up the wickets for KKR in what Sunil Gavaskar called “riveting cricket” in commentary.
Aussie pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile (celebrating Kohli’s wicket in the picture by B. Halder) was the wrecker-in-chief for KKR. He accounted for Kohli, AB de Villiers and Kedar Jadhav in three overs of hostile fast bowling. Eden had turned up in full strength for arguably the biggest match this season but the decibel meter suggested KKR had competition from RCB in the stands. Hundreds of young people, who swear by Kohli, had turned up in red tees, many of them with VK written on their cheeks. But as the KKR pacers picked up wickets, the roar contest too became one-sided. “Kay-Kay-RRRRR Kay-Kay-RRRRR,” they chanted.
The Eden roar reached Shah Rukh Khan, who is yet to turn up at the home ground this season. “Do I need to say anything… but that I love u all at the Eden Garden. AmiKKR…YAAAYYYYYY!!!!!,” SRK tweeted along with a picture (above).
Man of the Match Coulter-Nile said he “got goosebumps” while fielding as Eden roared. “It was that loud,” he said post-match. A distraught Kohli said: “I can’t say anything at the moment. It was that bad. This is just not acceptable.”
