Mumbai, Feb. 16: Peter Mukerjea, former media magnate and husband of Sheena Bora murder case prime accused Indrani, was today charged with murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.
"Peter actively participated in the conspiracy, whether he was in India or abroad," the CBI said in a supplementary chargesheet three months after his arrest.
Peter, 60, also "misled" his son Rahul - who was in a relationship with the former STAR India boss's step-daughter Sheena - by telling him he did not know about her whereabouts after her disappearance in April 2012, says the 52-page chargesheet filed in a Mumbai court.
Peter had claimed at the time of Indrani's arrest in August last year that he had no idea Sheena was Indrani's daughter from an earlier relationship, nor that she had been murdered.
Today, the CBI counsel said the agency was still probing the "financial angle" and allegations that some senior Mumbai cops had helped hush up the murder till the arrest of Shyamvar Rai, Peter's driver, in August. The CBI was given the probe after claims of Peter's ties with the officers.
The agency had on November 20 filed a 1,000-page chargesheet naming Indrani the prime accused in the murder of her 24-year-old-daughter Sheena. Indrani's ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Rai were also charged with murder.
Peter's bail plea was rejected four days ago after the CBI opposed it saying it planned to file the chargesheet against him. The agency had also voiced fears that Peter, a British national, might leave India. Peter has been lodged in a jail cell next to that of 26/11 terror accused Abu Jundal.
