Attari (Amritsar), Nov. 30 (PTI): Forty Indian prisoners, including 35 fishermen, were today repatriated by the Pakistan government through the Attari-Wagah land route.
They were released from a Pakistan jail on Friday, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif shook hands and exchanged pleasantries at the 18th Saarc summit in Kathmandu.
The prisoners crossed over to India with “emergency travel certificates” issued by the Indian high commission in Islamabad, officials said.
The 35 fishermen had inadvertently crossed into Pakistani waters while fishing in the Arabian Sea and were picked up by Pakistani coast guards on charges of illegal fishing. They were examined by a medical team after repatriation.
The other five were arrested as their travel documents were not complete.
