New York, Oct. 6 (PTI): The New York Times has apologised for publishing a cartoon that was seen by many as mocking India’s Mars mission. The newspaper said it was not trying to “impugn” India but was highlighting that space programmes are no longer the exclusive domain of rich, western countries.
The September 28 cartoon shows an Indian, accompanied by a bull, wearing a short dhoti and shirt on which is etched the word “India”. The man is shown knocking on the door of a room with the sign “Elite Space Club”.
New Delhi (PTI): A claims tribunal in Delhi has awarded Rs 11 lakh to the mother of a 19-year-old who died after his car hit a truck parked in the middle of the road.
New Delhi (PTI): A Delhi court has upheld a child welfare committee order directing an employer to pay over Rs 60,000 to a minor maid for making her work without wages. According to the prosecution, the 12-year-old was employed by M.C. Pandey from February 2013 to September 2013 but no wages were paid. Also, Pandey and his wife used to beat her up.
New Delhi (PTI): A Delhi court has sent businessman Gautam Khaitan, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate during its probe into the Rs 3,600-crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal, to judicial custody till Tuesday. The businessman has been alleged to be a key link in connection with kickbacks in the scam. Khaitan’s bail plea will be heard on Tuesday.
Ghaziabad (PTI): Three bogies of the Delhi-bound Lucknow Mail derailed near Ghaziabad on Monday, affecting rail traffic on the Delhi-Howrah route for nearly six hours. There were no casualties, an official said.
