Mumbai, Oct. 25: Police are still clueless on whether model-turned-actress Bidushi Dash Barde was murdered or died an accidental death, three days after the former Miss Chennai was found in a pool of blood at her rented Andheri apartment.

A glass shelf had apparently crashed into the 23-year-old, piercing her chin and neck.

Police sources said according to the post-mortem report, Bidushi had 13 injuries on her body, most of them caused by glass shards. A detailed examination, they added, would reveal if the wounds had been inflicted by any sharp weapon.

Bidushi’s husband Kedar, an IT professional she married in 2009, had returned home around 9 on Monday night to find her lying on the floor.

Kedar, who had left for work at 8am, rushed her to hospital but Bidushi was declared dead on arrival. In his statement, Kedar told the police Bidushi was diabetic and had spells of dizziness.

The police had initially filed a case of accidental death based on the assumption that Bidushi bled to death after the shelf fell on her.

“We first registered a case of accidental death but some injuries on her neck made us suspect they could have been inflicted,” said an officer at DN Nagar police station where the case has been registered.

The police said there were no signs of a forced entry. That no valuables were missing either ruled out robbery as a possible reason for the death, the sources said.

Bidushi, originally from Odisha, had acted in some south Indian films before shifting from Chennai to Mumbai with her husband. She and Kedar had been living in the Andheri flat for over 18 months.

On Monday, Kedar tried calling Bidushi throughout the day but couldn’t get through. Investigators said they had recorded his statement along with that of a domestic help who works at the building. The police are now going through CCTV footage after the help told them she saw a visitor at the flat.

The investigators are also going through the register to check who else visited the flat. “We are checking the whereabouts of three visitors who came to the flat on Monday. It would be premature to discuss the details … but we are probing all possible angles,” additional commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil said.

Police officials said although they had not yet given Kedar a clean chit, they were investigating the possibility that it was an accidental death. Sources said the police were also going through Bidushi’s call records.
