Ranchi, May 12: Chief minister Arjun Munda was moved to a room in Apollo hospital today, four days after he was admitted to an intensive care unit along with his wife and four others with injuries sustained after his chopper made a crash-landing at Birsa Munda Airport.

Medical superintendent P.D. Sinha said Munda’s health was improving rapidly and there were no complications. He, however, did not specify when he would be released from hospital.

“The hospital will take a decision (on his release) after receiving word from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) that is being consulted on his line of treatment. Our neurosurgeon, Dr Sanjay Kumar, is in contact with AIIMS doctors who are reviewing his progress,” he said.

Soon after his shift, the chief minister’s office released a message from him for the people of Jharkhand. “Your wishes have given much strength to me. I have to live and work for the three crore populace,” it read.

Munda, who had a number of visitors today, including CMD of Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) Naveen Jindal, was the last to be shifted to a super deluxe room on the third floor of the hospital around 3.15pm.

Earlier, the two pilots V.K. Singh and G.P.S. Kaushik, were shifted to rooms, after which Munda’s wife, Meera, was moved from the NICU. Security officer Manoj Kumar Singh had been moved yesterday, while MLA Barkuanr Gagrai, who was released yesterday, left the hospital today.

Jindal, whose company is an investor in Jharkhand, met the chief minister in the morning along with two senior JSPL officials, joint managing director Anand Goel and deputy managing director V.R. Sharma

A Congress MP from Kurukshetra, Jindal arrived in the state capital on a chartered aircraft. He also took time off to drive down to JSPL’s steel mill in Balkudra (Patratu) in neighbouring Ramgarh district.

BJP president Nitin Gadkari is expected to come to Ranchi tomorrow.
