More work, CBI takes in 638 officers

The CBI recruited 638 officers in 2017 to strengthen prosecution work at a time the number of cases being referred to it has surged.

New Delhi: The CBI recruited 638 officers in 2017 to strengthen prosecution work at a time the number of cases being referred to it has surged.

The central agency inducted 537 officers in various ranks from the state police forces, advisors and bank, railway and Pairvi offices. As many as 101 have been recruited as public prosecutors, deputy superintendents and sub-inspectors, an official said.

To clear pending promotions, the agency held 11 departmental promotions committees in 2017 through which 96 officials from the rank of the superintendent to canteen staff were elevated.

Two more such committees were set up through which the ranks of 57 officers were confirmed.

The CBI held four limited departmental competitive examinations for promotion in various ranks, the officer said. PTI
