Industrialists shared their vision of Jharkhand striving towards creating more opportunities for sector-based industrial development, discussing the opportunities and challenges at a session on the sidelines of the CII Jharkhand annual meeting in Jamshedpur on Monday.

The session on the theme “Build Jharkhand: Growth, Sustainability, Technology” had industrialists discussing the possibility of the government, industry and society coming together, thinking together and working together to drive the process to achieve a developed Jharkhand.

Immediate past chairman of CII Jharkhand State Council and managing director and CEO of Highco Engineers Pvt Ltd, Tapas Sahu, said Jharkhand needs to play a crucial role in India being ready to become a $5-trillion economy by 2025-26 and industry will remain the primary growth engine for this endeavour.

“Jharkhand has the capability and capacity to not only contribute but also drive India’s growth. With proactive government policies and a favourable investment climate, Jharkhand is coming up fast in the investment space. This is evident from the fact that in recent times Jharkhand has been constantly ranked high in the DIPP (department of industrial policy and promotion) ranking of Ease of Doing Business. A strategy also needs to be created for sustainability in the renewable energy footprint, mitigation and conservation strategies and resource efficiency,” stressed Sahu.

Vice-chairman of CII Jharkhand State Council and vice-president (operations) of Tata Motors Limited, Vishal Badshah, said that currently, the automobile industry contributes 7.1 per cent of India’s GDP and 49 per cent of its manufacturing GDP.

“It means that this impacts the nation’s economy significantly. For India, the concern to shift to eco-friendly technology in the automotive industry remains that of self-sufficiency in fuel production, use of renewable energy sources in the production of these alternative fuels, removal of supply chain bottlenecks and the need for suitable yet sustainable infrastructure to go green in mobility,” said Badshah.

Incoming chairman of CII Jharkhand State Council and managing director, JCAPCPL (Jamshedpur Continuous Annealing & Processing Company Private Limited, a Tata Steel subsidiary) Ujjal Chakraborti, said that Jharkhand has transformed itself by creating infrastructure utilising its resources and can be in a position to compete with other industrial states.

“Jharkhand with its remarkable natural resources, geographical advantage, rich and varied culture, wildlife sanctuaries, and attractive tourist destinations, also has the potential to be ‘The State’ of 21st Century India,” said Chakraborti.
