New Delhi, July 9 (PTI): The government today cut short the tenure of Intelligence Bureau (IB) director K.P. Singh and shifted him to the cabinet secretariat as secretary (security).
Ajit Kumar Doval, a special director in the IB, has been appointed in his place.
Singh, a 1966 batch IPS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre, is likely to go on leave.
He is one of the few IB directors whose tenure has been cut short. Earlier, D.C. Pathak was moved to the joint intelligence committee by the NDA government.
Singh, whose term ends on August 31, has served in the IB for over three decades and was actively involved in talks with Nagaland insurgents and the Hurriyat Conference in Kashmir.
Former foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal was today appointed India’s ambassador to Russia. He succeeds K. Raghunath.
