Q: Your role in Apna Sapna Money Money..?
I am introduced as Sania Badnam. I’m totally characterless on reel and try every possible way to con people and my aim is to collect as huge a booty as possible in my bank account. In fact, I chose this role. This character is a real one. It was closely experienced by Subhash Ghai himself. I have never been close to anyone like this though. But, yes, I have seriously worked on this comic character.
Q: Why didn’t you choose being the Pandit’s daughter, that’s now being played by Riya Sen?
Well, Sania’s character had a lot to perform. I also enjoyed doing this character very much. I am sure even the audience will enjoy it to the fullest. Also, it will be a role they will remember even after they walk out of the theatre. I derived contentment performing it.
Q: This role will bring negativity to your persona?
There is nothing negative or positive. One should enjoy performing the role. Moreover it should be exciting and attractive for the audience so that they do not move hither-thither but remain with their eyes and mouth wide open.
Q: One thing that you liked in Riteish Deshmukh?
We shared a very good chemistry and I enjoyed Riteish’s performance in this film. He enjoys doing comic roles and also does it to perfection.
Q: Most of the directors tried to exploit you onscreen by making you look sexy. Comment.
(Laughs) Well, I am sexy, so why not. Actually, they do it according to the demand of the role. I have not come across anybody who has tried to portray me irrespective of the demand of the scene.
Q: Sources reveal that in Tom Dick and Harry the sexy sequences were shown and the rest of your role was edited. Were you not offended?
Yes, of course, I was very much hurt and I was not here while the promotion was on. Although the producer knew about it he did not bother to inform the media and I was astonished to see news being flashed that I am not attending the promotions. Finally, when I saw the movie, to my surprise, all the scenes other than the sexy sequences were edited. I did want to question the person concerned, but since the movie did well I let it go. But now I am working with all A-1 people so I do not fear such incidents to occur again.
Q: What have you learnt from your love, life and breakoffs?
Well, it is a very typical situation in the life of every human being. When the heart breaks you go into depression and it’s a matter which you cannot express in words. I, being a celebrity, had to pay the price of bearing the pangs while reading about my love life in the papers as well. I used to feel very upset because I used to go into depression again. It is very difficult for a woman to forget somebody she loves from the bottom of her heart. Well! I have come out of this and now I only love my work. I have grown wiser and I want to concentrate on my work. It is going to be all work and no play for me. I am single, but I am not ready to mingle.
Q: Your look in Shakalaka Boom Boom coincides with Aishwarya’s in Umrao Jaan?
In fact, it is just a coincidence. Manish Malhotra has experimented with this look where I enact the role of a high-profile celeb publicist in Shakalaka Boom Boom. But right now I can’t stop raving about the clothes designed by Manish Malhotra for this movie. Manish is simply fabulous. He has designed some mindboggling clothes for me which is in sync with my character which is high-flying and high-profile. He has dressed me up like a goddess. I’m eternally thankful to him.
Q: Your dream role?
I was attracted to Meena Kumari’s role in Pakeezah. My father being from the Army I couldn’t get gurus who could teach me Kathak at all places where he was posted. But wherever I could manage I took interest in learning Kathak only because I dreamt of performing this role, if at all, I’d be in the industry.
