Siliguri, March 7 :     The Communist Organisation of India (Marxist-Leninist) will ?invalidate? ballots in the March 17 Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council polls in an inverted show of its support to the Gorkhaland cause. Party general secretary Kanu Sanyal said here today: ?Our supporters will go to polling booths, but not to vote for any party. They will spoil their ballot papers to record their protest against the insincerity of all parties in the fray towards the Gorkhaland cause.? The COI(ML), which is not contesting this time, has supported the statehood demand from the very outset and took part in the previous council elections. ?But we could not field any candidate this time because of some mistakes made by our colleagues,? Sanyal said. He claimed the COI(ML) had created support bases in Sonada, Kalimpong, Panighata and Putung (the last two places are part of GNLF chief Subhas Ghising?s Soureni Panighata constituency.) Justifying the party?s new strategy, Sanyal said: ?We did not call for a poll boycott because it requires more strength and a political programme which is not feasible at the moment.?
