Jamia Millia Islamia students on Saturday afternoon staged a demonstration outside the campus against the new citizenship law. The protest was spearheaded by woman students of the central varsity amidst slogans like “Ladke lenge azadi” and “Inquilab Zindabad”. Several parents of the students also took part in the protest. Last Sunday Delhi police had gone on the rampage, entered the campus by force and thrashed students and fired teargas inside the library. The police excesses had triggered outrage at the university campus across the country.

Hundreds of students, professionals and civil society activists also marched to India Gate on Saturday evening and protested against the amendments in the citizenship law and chanted slogans against the Modi government. They said the new law was designed to destroy the secular fabric of the country.
