New Delhi: Telugu Desam Party MPs on Sunday marched towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 7 Lok Kalyan Marg residence to protest against the central government and demand special category status for Andhra Pradesh.
The 19 slogan-shouting MPs were, however, detained on their way and taken to Tughlak Road police station. They were released later.
The decision to take out a march was taken at a meeting of party MPs at the residence of former Union minister and Rajya Sabha member Y.S. Chowdary.
"The Prime Minister is the person to take a decision on special category status. He has to fulfil the promises he made to the people of Andhra Pradesh and we wanted to meet and remind him," MP Jaydev Galla said.
Desam members had earlier protested and stalled Parliament to press for their demand. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal visited the police station to meet and show solidarity with the Desam members.
