The Congress on Thursday asked the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe what kind of deal senior RSS leader Ram Madhav and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had allegedly struck with Kuki militants to help the BJP in elections.

S.S. Haokip, a Kuki militant leader and the chairman of the United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF), had claimed in a two-page representation to Union home minister Amit Shah on June 7, 2019, that in 2017 the UKLF had helped BJP candidates win “as agreed upon” by Ram Madhav and “Hemanta Bishwas Sarma”.

Congress spokesperson Ajoy Kumar told a media conference: “We know all the agencies are compromised but the NIA should investigate this revelation as it is anti-national. Both Sarma and Madhav should be arrested. It is on affidavit. The Kuki militant leader S.S. Haokip said this in an affidavit that they helped the BJP in the election. The BJP has little concern for the country, they can do anything to win elections.”

The letter was submitted as an annexure with an affidavit in an NIA court in Imphal a week ago on June 8 in connection with a case of missing government arms. Haokip, an accused in the 2018 case and chargesheeted in 2019, has sought exemption.

Kumar also pointed out that the house of a BJP minister had been burnt down in the continuing violence in Manipur but Prime Minister Narendra Modi was silent and Union home minister Amit Shah was campaigning in Andhra Pradesh. Kumar questioned the electronic media for diverting people’s attention from the grave crisis in Manipur by broadcasting items on love jihad and other communal issues.
