New Delhi: The Congress and the Janata Dal Secular have agreed to bury the acrimony of the past and contest the next parliamentary election together.
Chief minister-elect H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and invited them to attend the swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday. Rahul will be flying to Bangalore.
Sources said both sides regretted whatever bitterness occurred in the past and promised to continue the alliance and fight the next general election together.
Amid reports of differences over choice of ministries, Kumaraswamy said: "Karnataka Congress leaders, along with general secretary K.C. Venugopal, will discuss the power-sharing formula tomorrow (Tuesday)."
Congress leaders said the final decision on ministerial berths and portfolios had not yet been taken. Leaders involved in the Karnataka operation - Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ashok Gehlot and Venugopal - submitted their report to Rahul Gandhi in the morning, explaining the political situation in the state as well as the expectations of the local leaders.
Congress leaders said there would be no discord in the ministry formation in Karnataka as the obstacles could be removed through discussions.
Kumaraswamy may take oath alone on Wednesday if the issues are not sorted out by Tuesday night but efforts are on to decide the entire cabinet at the earliest.
Kumaraswamy also met BSP leader Mayawati at her New Delhi residence on Monday.
