New Delhi, Sept. 11: The CBI is thinking of approaching the Supreme Court if the Trinamul Congress continues with the protest outside the agency’s Salt Lake office.
“They must understand that it is a Supreme Court-directed probe and such unruly behaviour is tantamount to putting hindrances and subversion of justice. It is contempt of the court,” said a senior CBI offer in Delhi.
Bengal law minister Chandrima Bhattacharya led the protest outside the Salt Lake office today and threatened a “bigger programme” tomorrow.
Some CBI officials attributed the protest to “panic reaction”. “They are apprehensive that some other bigwigs might be called for questioning. Their action clearly shows that the state government is not co-operating with the probe,” a CBI officer said.
CBI director Ranjit Sinha said he had asked Bengal police today to provide security to CBI officers. “I am aware of today’s development and spoke to Bengal police, asking them to ensure fool-proof security to our officers. If need be, we will also take up the matter with the Bengal government,” Sinha said.
