CBI arrests judge in bribery case

The CBI today arrested a civil judge of Delhi's Tis Hazari courts and her lawyer husband on the charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.

New Delhi, Sept. 29: The CBI today arrested a civil judge of Delhi's Tis Hazari courts and her lawyer husband on the charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.

"The sitting judge, Rachna Tiwari Lakhanpal, allegedly struck a deal in connection with a land dispute case she was adjudicating. Her husband Alok (Lakhanpal) was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 5 lakh as bribe on behalf of the accused judge," CBI spokesperson R.K. Gaur said.

A case was registered under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. "Searches on the premises of the accused judge led to recovery of Rs 94 lakh (approx) in cash," Gaur said. The judge was remanded in judicial custody and her husband in police custody.
