CANCER PATIENTS FILE CASE FOR PAIN RELIEVER

Calcutta, March 3 :     A petition challenging the interference by the central and state drug controlling authorities in the dispensation of a lotion that eases pain was moved before Calcutta High Court today on behalf of some patients. The supply of the liquid, developed by A.K. Sinha, professor of life science and biotechnology, Jadavpur University, was stopped after he received a letter from the university?s registrar, asking him to submit details of his research. This followed queries from the drug controller, eastern region. Moving the petition, it was stated that these patients? days were numbered and Sinha?s lotion could help reduce pain. Justice Pinaki Ghose has directed the deputy drug controller, Calcutta, as well as Sinha to file reports on Friday when the matter would come up for hearing.
