London, Aug. 21: Swraj Paul has taken time off to preside over the wedding of his grandson Akhil Paul to his fiancée Bisma Mowjee.

These days "destination weddings" are all the rage - and Akhil and Bisma chose to have theirs not in Rajasthan, which some consider to be so yesterday, but in the Hungarian capital of Budapest.

"The wedding was themed after The Grand Budapest Hotel," 30-year-old Akhil said, referring to last year's hit movie.

The film stars Ralph Fiennes as concierge Monsieur Gustave H at a famous hotel from the fictional Republic of Zubrowka between the First and Second World Wars, and the young Zero Moustafa (played by Tony Revolori) as the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend.

Akhil and Bisma really entered into the spirit of the movie. "We even had a lobby boy and the gifts in the rooms were themed after The Grand Budapest Hotel," disclosed Akhil.

The wedding reception took place in the Buda Castle and was preceded by a series of ceremonies, including a welcome dinner at the Museum of Ethnography.

Akhil, who was educated at King Edward's School in Birmingham, St Paul's School in London and then read biochemistry at Corpus Christi, Oxford, now works for Caparo, the family firm founded by his grandfather.

Bisma, who studied at King's College London before taking two more degrees at Oxford, is senior project coordinator at an educational charity, A World at School, which aims to get all children into school.

A World at School is part of Their World, a bigger charity of which Swraj is chairman.

Akhil, who is Hindu Punjabi, and Bisma, who is from the Shia faith, had a civil wedding at a registry office in London.

When Akhil asked for a purohit figure to preside over the wedding in Budapest, his grandfather volunteered his services - and led the mantras.

"I'm very expensive," quipped the Caparo chairman.

The entire Paul clan turned out for the wedding.

Akhil and Bisma have returned to work because "she is doing a project for the UN General Assembly", the bridegroom said.

Swraj expressed delight that "my family is turning into a United Nations". He pointed out that his youngest son, Angad, Caparo's chief executive, is married to Michelle, "who happens to be Jewish".
