Popular production and distribution banner Zee Studios has recently unveiled its content slate for 2023 with 28 titles, including films and web series, across languages.
H Vinoth’s Tamil thriller Thunivu, headlined by Ajith Kumar, is slated for a January release during the Pongal weekend.
Amit Ravindranath Sharma’s Hindi period drama Maidaan, starring Ajay Devgn, will release in February. The film will chronicle the golden era of Indian football during the 1950s and ’60s. Salman Khan-starrer Hindi action-comedy Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan will release during Eid in April.
Gadar 2, a sequel to Anil Sharma’s 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, is also in the pipeline this year. Sunny Deol will reprise his role as Tara Singh in this sequel. The veteran action hero will also be seen in Vivek Chauhan’s action thriller Baap alongside Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakraborty and Jackie Shroff.
Ashima Chibber’s Mrs. Chatterjee v/s Norway, featuring Rani Mukerji in the lead role, is due for release in March. The film is based on the true story of an NRI couple living in Norway whose children were taken away from them by local authorities in 2011. Yami Gautam-starrer Lost, directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, will have a direct-to-digital release on the platform. Abhishek Acharya’s Covid Stories, headlined by Richa Chaddha, and Atul Sabharwal’s Berlin, starring Rahul Bose, Ishwak Singh and Aparshakti Khurana are also releasing this year.
Among the other Hindi releases from Zee Studios in 2023 are Manoj Bajpayee-starrer Bandaa and Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer Haddi. Karishma Kapoor will be seen in Abhinay Deo’s streaming series Brown.
Zee Studios also has an array of Tamil-language content, including Muthaiya’s Kather Basha Endra Muthuramalingam. Kishor Pandurang Belekar’s silent film Gandhi Talks — with music by A.R. Rahman — features Vijay Sethupathi, Arvind Swami and Aditi Rao Hydari. Another untitled project, to be headlined by a Tamil superstar, is also in the works.
Apart from these, Dulquer Salmaan will headline Abhilash Joshiy’s Malayalam film King of Kotha. Jaggesh will feature in Ranganayaka (Kannada) and Vimanam (Telugu).
Paresh Mokashi’s Vaalavi, Swapnil Joshi and Ashish Bende’s Aatma Pamphlet, Hemant Awtade’s Ghar Banduk Biryani and Vikram Patwardhan’s Frame are part of the Marathi slate. Zee Studios’s Punjabi-language films include Pankaj Batra’s Uchiyan Ne Gallan Tere Yaar Diyan and Godday Godday Chaa.
