Kushali Nag Do You Want To See Riya In More Bengali Films? Tell T2@abp.in Published 18.06.12, 12:00 AM

Happy in her own space, Riya Sen will not compromise me-time for work. t2 catches up with Moon Moon Sen’s younger daughter...

You were appreciated for your role in Noukadubi, yet we haven’t seen you in another Bengali film...

No offer after Noukadubi has been half as good, so I don’t want to demean it by just doing a Bengali film for the heck of it. I am doing two Hindi films — Zindagi 50:50 (directed by Rajiv Ruia) with Arya Babbar, and Hai Rabba Main Kya Karoon (directed by Amrit Sagar) with Arshad Warsi and Paresh Rawal. I don’t do every film I’m offered. I’d rather do quality work. I have been working for nine years now and I like doing things at my own pace. I’m patient and secure. There’s a lot of work everywhere and it will come to me if it has to. I work in my own space.

What do you do when you are not shooting?

I travel a lot for shows. I love dancing and I perform on stage a lot. I do a lot of appearances, like store launches and judging fashion shows. I also love to travel around the world, expand my mind and educate myself. I feel claustrophobic staying in one country for too long!

Do you holiday with any special person?

I have lots of friends but there’s not yet that someone special. I am single and I love my space.

How do you deal with the link-ups?

I have always felt that a major part of the media has victimised me and has always dragged my name into just about any controversy. I feel it’s a joke now because it’s been happening for so long that the whole industry knows who I am and what I am and readers aren’t stupid.

You often tweet about shopping. Are you a shopaholic?

I love buying shoes. I was in Bangkok for two weeks and I bought 15 pairs of shoes! I was in Oman before that and Dubai for a cricket league where again I bought some 10 pairs! I also love buying clothes from everywhere. Fashion keeps changing and I dress for myself. I don’t care who thinks whether they are good or bad or what’s written about me. None of them is actually Donatella Versace to comment!

Your favourite pastime is cooking. When was the last time you cooked for your grandmother Suchitra Sen?

One thing we have in common is bingeing in the evening, and both mom (Moon Moon Sen) and dad (Bharat Dev Varma) get very annoyed because we are full during dinner and we hardly eat! I was home for a few days in May and my grandmother and me had fried egg toast and French fries. It was made by me for our secret evening binge! Grandmom and I have similar tastes in food.
