What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet” — The iconic line from William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is now the name of the newest chill zone in the heart of the city. Divided into two levels, Whats In D Name is a sprawling 6,000sq ft den that is more than just a pub. What else? t2 decodes.

What: Whats In D Name
Where: 1/1 Camac Street, first floor, opposite Allen Park, next to Titan Eye+ showroom
Opens: Today, 4pm to midnight.  From September 11, it will open at noon.
 Meal for two: Rs 750-plus

PUB

Get set for a night out with bae at Calcutta’s newest chill zone. Whats In D Name boasts vibrant colours, soft lights and drinking games (think Shots and Ladders, Mini Foos Ball and Roulette) promising to keep you engaged all evening! If you are good at aim-and-shoot, the LED Beer Pong table is for you. “With a nightclub background, for more than five years, we realised that there is a need for a place where people can connect and talk and also have a ball! And so, games like Beer Pong, life-size Jenga, Battle Shots and several drinking games,” said Anshuman Singh, co-director, Whats In D Name. Yes, we know him from the Nocturne nights.

You can also try: Singing out loud on Thursdays at the Karaoke Nights and also up your drinking experience with ‘Share Bazaar’ that works just like a Stock Exchange. It will be open every day from noon to 8.30pm.

If you and your friends are in the mood to do something ‘toofani’ then ask bartender Biswajit (who was last spotted at The Irish House) to give you The Tempest — the one litre vodka, triple sec, soda, pineapple juice, cherry, blue curacao drink’s just right for your gang of four to stir the storm!
Aadab Arz Hai — a great way to start, bite into the spicy and juicy minced mutton sticks that will go well with your cocktail.

BRUNCH

If you are a sucker for brunches (every Sunday from noon to 5pm) made up of sangria, Continental food and salads (think Chili Crusted Chicken Salad) then walk into the fully air-conditioned “glass house” with a clear view of the vast blue sky. Take a seat and flip through Sunday’s t2 (yes, there is a dedicated t2 stand!) as you catch up on the week’s gossip with your friends. “The USP of our open-air space is that it’s a glass house not only allowing a beautiful view of the sky but also air-conditioned, making it the ideal spot to enjoy brunches and dinner dates,” said Rajdeep Chakraborty, co-director.
You can also try: Tuning in to the live band playing the cover of your fave Coldplay number on special days. You can also walk in here hand-in-hand with bae at night, watch the raindrops pitter-patter on the creeper-covered glass walls and enjoy a dinner date! Trust the fairy lights to set the mood.

T2 RECOMMENDS

Try Grilled Pescado — a Calcutta Bekti Continental delicacy that has the right blend of spicy and tangy flavours. It is served with grilled vegetables and potatoes.
Sip on a glass of chilled French Sangria stirred up with green apple, cucumber slices and pomegranate seeds.

LUNCHEON

Parked at the busy Park Street-Camac Street junction, drop in for a quick lunch. Pick from the a la carte menu or if you are pressed for time try the Mili Jhuli Sarkar veg or non-veg combos that come for Rs 249 and Rs 299 respectively!
You can also try: To spot the PK transistor on the wall behind the DJ’s console! The wall has around 200 music systems, from GenEx to X. Or just sit back and relax with lounge music and classic rock playing in the background.

T2 RECOMMENDS

All’s Well That Ends Well — the dessert platter that has a portion of Jol Bhora Sandesh for the desi mishti lover, mint ice cream, and kalakand clove cheesecake — serves up another Shakespeare reference.
Slo Mo Lamb Chops — Jewish-style lamb chops with red wine, fruit juice and Baghdadi spices, served with couscous and veggies.

HI-TEA

Low on budget but do not want to miss the open-air vibe in the evening? Fret not, enjoy your fave hookah with your friend without fighting for turns! Why? Because the shisha is armed with two pipes! #NoMoreWaiting
You can also try: The infused green teas — think flavours like lavender and Davidoff coffee — or freshly baked Prawn Patty and cookies from their bakery. Have leisure time aplenty? Ask for a chalk and doodle your own tic-tac-toe game on the slate coasters! We doodled t2! *grins*

T2 RECOMMENDS

Unwind with Chatka Ka Jhatka — a whisky-based cocktail that has jaggery syrup, tamarind pulp, roasted cumin powder and a dash of lime juice... served in a cup!
Move over potato chips and roasted peanuts, welcome Chakna Choor that comprises spicy chana, crunchy bhindi and taro strips.
