Boman Irani in Bollywood Ka Boss

Come Sunday, 9pm, and actor Boman Irani turns quizmaster. What for? The correct answer is Bollywood ka Boss, a film-based quiz on Filmy. With a couple of days to go before D-Day, Boman fields a volley of questions from t2.

You must have had a taste of the quizmaster’s fare by now?

Yes, it’s a sweet taste. I meet 20 contestants a day. We bond quickly due to a common factor — our love for films.

How easy are you keeping the questions?

The questions are not easy at all. We do not want people who only want to show their faces on TV and drop out after the first round. Every one selected is good enough to challenge the boss and hang in till the end. No pot luck here, ma’am!

Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan threw a lot of lifelines. What are you offering?

It will be a pure quiz without shortcuts. There will be 20 questions per episode for which 10 players will play. All 10 will answer the question asked along with the one on the Boss ki Gaddi, who is the only one to win money. But after every five questions he faces a challenge from the top two scorers in the audience and can be unseated. The lowest two scorers leave.

One hears you have been singing on the show?

Yes, and dancing too. We are trying to give it a filmi feel. Each day has a theme. So you will find me singing and dancing in the Holi or the wedding specials. In fact, every three shows out of 10, I will be singing or dancing.

We also saw you singing in Star Voice of India. When did you make your small-screen debut as a singer?

That was on KBC 3 when I appeared with Sanju (Sanjay Dutt). I enjoy singing.

Which genre of music do you like best?

The moment you put music into different compartments, the fun goes out. I like all kinds of music — except rap. My heroes are Rafi, Kishore, and Mannada. I am rehearsing for the singing but there is no way I can have a script for the quiz. Being a quizmaster is giving me a great high. But if you ask me to do a show on stocks and shares, I’d be a huge flop!

What else is on your plate?

A lot of films — Little Zizou, Love Story 2050, Maharathi, Fruit & Nut... I wouldn’t want to be busier.

What is the one question you wouldn’t want to answer?

My life is an open book. But don’t ask me my weight!
