| Usha performs at Rhapsody in Jhaal Farezi. Pictures: B. Halder |
She sang, told stories and had the audience in splits with her witty one-liners. Belting out her chartbusters Dum maro dum and Darling alongside foot-tapping tracks like Senorita and Badtameez dil, Usha Uthup set the ball rolling for Rhapsody, in association with t2, at Jhaal Farezi on November 27. t2 caught up with Usha for a chat...
How does it feel to perform at Jhaal Farezi?
Fantastic! Rhapsody is a wonderful concept. I wanted to sing here. The ambience is so nice. Any singer would give an arm and a leg to be part of an evening like this. The crowd is so amazing. Jhaal Farezi is throbbing with life.
Which track do you love performing the most?
There are so many. I will choose Kali teri gutt te and Fever!
Your one-liners leave the audience in splits. Are you interested in stand-up TV shows?
(Smiles) I do it at all my shows. I would love to do a show for television. I have been doing this for 44 years now. The most important thing in life is to have a sense of humour, otherwise you will become a frustrated human being. And the times we are living in now, it is easy to get frustrated. Look at the brighter side... a sense of humour makes one irresistible.
Why don’t you act more often?
If a good offer comes my way, I will. Talks are on for a Bengali and a Malayalam film. And I have sung for a film titled Bullet Rani, directed by Sanjay Srivastav, starring Kangana Ranaut.
