The Bachchan baritone boomed once more in many a living room on Monday night as Season 5 of Kaun Banega Crorepati premiered on August 15 on Sony.

Hosted by Baap B in his inimitable style, the first episode — which witnessed the screening of a special patriotic music video set to tune by music men Shankar Ehsaan Loy — had 23-year-old content writer Virendra Pal Singh pocketing a cool Rs 3,20,000 as prize money.

What we liked: the option where a contestant can chat with his favourite celebrity on the show —Virendra caught up with cricketer Yuvraj Singh.

What we didn’t like: Everything about Season 5 is a little too saccharine sweet.

Riding high on the success of Bade Achche Lagte Hain on Sony, Ekta Kapoor has launched a new soap — this time on Colors. Parichay — the story of an idealistic lawyer at war with the world — marks the return of Bigg Boss man Samir Soni to fiction after seven years. With the innovative promos — Colors launched one new promo a day over a month — being a talking point already, Parichay may prove to be yet another feather in the Ekta Kapoor cap.

If the first few episodes are anything to go by, Season 3 of Lie To Me promises to be one cracker of a watch. Starring Reservoir Dogs star Tim Roth as Cal Lightman, a ‘human lie detector’ and an expert in reading body and facial language, the STAR World show stands out for its crisp narrative and its attention to detail. If only Roth was as hot as White Collar’s Neal Caffrey! Sigh.

Entertainment Ke Liye... — the talent show on Sony — got its winner on Sunday night. Judged by Anu Malik and Farah Khan, the finale brought some of the best talent in the country to the stage. The eventual winner? Hot favourites Raibishi Group who stunned the audience with their display of unique balancing acts — including one in which they balanced a chair on a bottle! The special guest in the finals? Bolly/ Holly star Anil Kapoor who not only judged the show but also entertained with his magic tricks!
