He loves horror films and planning play dates with close friend Kareena Kapoor Khan for their sons Taimur and Laksshya. Tusshar Kapoor — who’s played Lucky over four films of the Rohit Shetty-directed blockbuster franchise Golmaal — chats with t2...

As an actor, you clearly enjoy comedy as a genre. But I believe you prefer watching horror films.

Yeah, I don’t watch a lot of comedy. I’d much rather watch It, instead of a comedy. Maybe there’s a dark side to me! (Laughs) I love watching supernatural and spooky films. I keep going back to The Exorcist, which was made in 1973. Every time I watch it, there’s something new. It’s just pure genius. I think it’s the most successful horror film till date. Then I loved It, The Shining, The Conjuring, The Exorcism of Emily Rose….

And how’s fatherhood treating you?

It’s the best thing that’s happened to me. It’s changed me so much as a person. I’m a lot more sorted now. Internally, I would be very cluttered and confused — it’s brought a lot of clarity, peace of mind and a lot of time management.

Is it overwhelming to be a single parent?

It’s not overwhelming at all. I’m not the kind of person who wants to party and socialise all the time. I love going out but I have early dinners and movies. Once a week, maybe, I go out and get drunk with friends. Once in a while, I’ll party. So my life that way is quite balanced.

Has fatherhood changed anything in your life?

Chilling in the afternoon, just napping or taking the day off is not possible anymore. Other than that nothing else has changed.

Your sister Ekta told us that spending time with Laksshya is the one bright spot in her day. What is she like as an aunt?

His day is also incomplete if he hasn’t seen her. She is completely different from me. She just does the maddest of

things. If I’m playing with him, I’ll take a toy and then put it away and get another toy — so it’s more structured. She, on the other hand, will come into the room screaming, running around, jump like a crazy person, then fall down — he just loves that. Sometimes, I wonder who’s the child! (Laughs)

Kareena and I are always discussing schools, nannies, play time, how we handle the outdoors. It’s only baby talk these days. Kareena and I are in exactly the same boat. There is a six-month age difference between our sons (Taimur and Laksshya). Even if we don’t meet, there’s always an SMS and she makes the effort to plan play dates for the kids

There’s been a bit of a baby boom around you. Kareena Kapoor had a baby, Karan Johar has twins and your Golmaal co-star Kunal Kemmu recently had a daughter. What’s that been like?

I’m the first one, so I’m the senior among all of them! (Laughs) But it feels really good that they all have kids that age. Obviously they’ll grow up and make their own friends… like Kareena and I are friends, Kunal and I, Karan is a close family friend… maybe the kids will also grow up being as friendly as we are. Hopefully, they’ll work together as well.

Do you guys compare parenting notes?

Kareena and I are always discussing schools, nannies, play time, how we handle the outdoors. It’s only baby talk these days. Kareena and I are in exactly the same boat. There is a six-month age difference between our sons. Even if we don’t meet, there’s always an SMS and she makes the effort to plan play dates for the kids. We don’t know if the kids will be friends or not but it’s a pleasant coincidence that the kids were born in the same year.

Kunal heard so much about parenting from me during this shoot. I think, he’s already got the first year orientation from me (laughs). I don’t see Karan too much because he is so busy but he did come to me after I had my baby to discuss the whole procedure and what it feels like. So we have exchanged notes.
