Tollywood expresses gratitude and shares heartfelt notes on filmmaker Tarun Majumdar

From Prosenjit and Jeet to Sujoy Ghosh and Paoli Dam, there’s an outpouring of grief

Condolence messages started pouring in from the actors and filmmakers of the Bengali film industry, expressing their gratitude for the rich legacy that veteran filmmaker Tarun Majumdar has left behind. The Padma Shri awardee passed away at SSKM Hospital, Calcutta, on July 4.

Tollywood star Prosenjit, who was directed by Majumdar in Pathbhola (1986) and Apan Aamar Apan (1990), condoled with the director’s family for their loss.

A pioneering director in the genre of family drama, Majumdar has been an icon for many aspiring filmmakers. Kahaani and Badlaa director Sujoy Ghosh called Majumdar one of the “greatest storytellers”, and that he has learnt a lot from the late director’s films.

Srijit Mukherji paid homage by listing some of Majumdar’s legendary works.

Byomkesh Hatyamancha star Abir Chatterjee thanked Majumdar for his creations.

Jeet, who recently starred in Raavan, wrote a heartfelt message for Majumdar’s loved ones, noting that the director’s works will continue to live on in the hearts of his fans.

Paoli Dam shared her grief and expressed her gratitude for the treasure trove of films that the filmmaker has left behind.

Saswata Chatterjee, known for his portrayal of Bob Biswas in Kahaani, shared a picture of Majumdar with a short message.

Filmmaker Raj Chakrabarty said it was a “black day for the entertainment industry”.

Jeetu Kamal, who played Satyajit Ray in Anit Datta’s Aparajito, shared his memory of the legendary director in a heartfelt post.
