1. DANCING GIRL: Telly star Sandipta Sen mixed revelry with reunion. “All my friends planned on coming to Tolly. You know, we are meeting after 14 years! I am really enjoying the party. For me, the dance floor is the main attraction!” grinned the Durga girl.
2. SHE’S HOT: Nusrat Jahan, the heroine of Shatru, came in a black sari. Sexy, we say! “I wanted to look different.... Also, a short dress would make me feel very cold!” she smiled. And why choose Tolly? “Because I am from Tollywood!” she laughed.

3. MADE FOR EACH OTHER: Pro golfer Rustam Yadu wanted to take his fiancee Ritika Gupta, a designer, out on Christmas Eve. And what better place than Tolly? “I can say she is my stylist,” said the handsome man in a trench coat. Ritika stood out in a printed jumpsuit, her own creation.

4. MINISTER COOL: Railway minister Dinesh Trivedi spent Christmas Eve with family and friends at Tolly. “Whenever I am in town, I play golf here every morning but this is the first time I am coming here on December 24. My son, Parthasarathi, 21, has come from America. I hardly get time to spend with the family.... We are chilling out!” smiled the Trinamul leader.
SONG & DANCE:
The crowd warmed up with Nu Identity. The band started playing a little after 8pm, belting out tracks like Smooth Operator, Hips Don’t Lie and La Bamba. Just right for the down-the-first-drink mood.
DJ Akbar Sami, who “looks forward to this event every year”, got spinning around 11pm. “The crowd here is very good, very responsive. This is my fourth time here and I have a kind of tuning between the crowd and me. I make a special set from Bombay before coming here,” Sami told t2 before taking his stage. The two aces up his sleeve? “A mix I have made of Jingle Bells and... Kolaveri, the anthem of 2011.”

A merry christmas moment at THE TOLLYGUNGE CLUB. (Pabitra Das) |
The Sami baritone boomed: “Hands up in the air and moving as if you don’t care.” The party people in the makeshift bamboo grove did just that. Time of My Life, Senorita, Sheila ki jawani, Bhaag bhaag DK Bose, Rock On!!, Summer of ’69, Chammak challo, Ooh la la, Dhinka chika, Jai jai Shiv Shankar, Haseena zulfonwali… one dance number after another made sure everyone just danced. Yes, without a care. Emcee Rohan filled in the blanks with his one-liners.
Food & drink faves:
Lining the bamboo grove and the bonfire were yummies galore. If Achari Murg Tikka was the platter pick of the night, on the sip side there was whisky and wine, vodka and cola...
She was wearing:
The shorter the better. The bone-chilling cold was given a thumbs down as the hemlines rose to the occasion. Backless, strappy, belted, off-shoulder, cowl, printed, lacy, shimmery — the LBD showed its all-round prowess. A pink here, a white there and a dot of red were also spotted in the sea of black.
Club speak:
“It’s rocking as usual! Rocking faster. People come back to The Tollygunge Club for the ambience… the stars, the openness, the space. I personally enjoy the joie de vivre,” said managing member and CEO Anil Mukerji.
