Cabbie Shauvik with Parambrata in The Bong Connection

He was last seen (and much talked about) as a Bangladeshi cabbie who wears his heart on his sleeve in Anjan Dutt’s The Bong Connection. And now Shauvik, a banker in Los Angeles, is back in Calcutta to pursue his passion — acting. This time for Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Sharmila Tagore-Aparna Sen-Rahul Bose starrer, Antaheen.

Shauvik plays an industrialist (Mr Mehra) caught in a bad marriage with Meeta Vasisht.

So how did Antaheen happen for the banker-turned-actor? “I had watched Anuranan and was interested to work with Tony (Aniruddha). I met him at a party last year and he offered me the film…. What I like about my role in Antaheen is that it’s completely different from Hassan in Bong Connection. Mr Mehra is very polished and suave,” he explains.

Shauvik was back in India this March to dub for Anjan Dutt’s BBD where he plays “Denis, an Anglo-Indian musician who is a failure in life”.

And after wrapping up Antaheen in the rains, he will return to Calcutta in November to shoot for Aamra director Mainak Bhaumik’s second film Maach, Mishti and More. In this Bong Connection 2 he will be Rahul, an NRI who returns to India after eight years to set up a business.

“I am very excited about the role. I have known Mainak for sometime and have faith in him…. I will also start shooting for a Hindi film from September. The film will be shot in the US,” rounds off Shauvik.
