JUSTIN-JIMMY’S RAP-OFF

TT Bureau Published 13.09.15, 12:00 AM

JUSTIN-JIMMY’S RAP-OFF

A guest on The Tonight Show this week, popstar Justin Timberlake kicked off the episode with an epic “rap-off” with host Jimmy Fallon. “Jimmy, we’ve been through this before,” Timberlake told Fallon as he began to rap:  “Let’s talk about sex, baby. Let’s talk about you and me....” The two came up with a fun performance, but the highlight of the 6:15 video is Justin showing Jimmy — and the world — never-seen-before pictures of his five-month-old son Silas. The week’s biggest YouTube hit has 4,253,280 claps and cheers.

THE IPHONE 6S IS HERE!

“Tapping, swiping and pinching have forever changed,” begins the 4:02 clip by Apple that introduces the world to its new babies — iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Your 2D iPhone experience now gets an entirely new dimension with “3D Touch”, described in the video as the “next generation of Multi-Touch”. For the first time, iPhone will recognise “Force”, enabling new gestures like “Peek” and “Pop”(letting you call up contextual menus on home screen icons through various levels of touch). The rest of the video goes all technical, highlighting the advanced tech tools used in these phones. Total touches on YouTube: 2,119,343.

ROGER TO THE RESCUE

Roger Federer is, well, Roger Federer. After winning his fourth round match against John Isner at the US Open in New York’s Flushing Meadows, the tennis great was ambushed by fans, all of whom wanted an autograph or a selfie. In the crowd crush, a little boy was seen struggling to reach out to his idol. Federer stepped up and asked his bodyguards to bring the boy down to the court from the stands, and then signed a giant tennis ball and a cap for his young fan. The heart-warming video has been watched and rewatched 408,756 times.

GULAABO: SHAANDAAR

The number — scored by Amit Trivedi and sung by Vishal Dadlani — may be strictly ho-hum, but Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt bring fresh and fun chemistry to Gulaabo, the first song from their October 22 biggie Shaandaar. Shot in the style of Tarantino’s cowboy films-meets-hardcore Bollywood, Gulaabo also focuses quite a bit on Sanah Kapur, Shahid’s half-sister. What we loved the most? Alia sporting a moustache! Gulaabo — with lyrics like Hey surma lagake latte uljhake/ Haath jiya ab malmal/ Tere chhajje ke neeche khade hain/ Phans gaye jaise daldal — has 293,661 singalongs.

MAIN HOON HERO TERA SPOOFED!

The video begins with the line: “Dedicated to our beloved star kids”. Over the next four-odd minutes, the guys at Shudh Desi Gaane have a blast spoofing the Hero title track, sung by Salman Khan. As a man channels Salman (in picture) — right up to the black tee and specs — another, sporting ‘fake’ six-pack abs, is the stand-in Sooraj Pancholi. The lyrics — “Even though tere chehre se makkhi bhi nahin hilti/ banega tu jo tera baap nahin banaa/ Main hoon godfather tera” — are hilarious. Total ceetees and taalis? 248,606.

BIGG BOSS 9 PROMO

Salman Khan — this time the original one — rounds off the YouTube Top 6 list this week with the oven-fresh promo of Bigg Boss. Season 9 of the Colors reality show goes on air sometime in October and the 30-second promo — which is all Salman — promises a riot. “Yahaan ek karega doosre ko trouble... kyunki one plus one is double trouble,” says the Bajrangi Bhaijaan man. The promise from host Salman at the end: “Watch Bigg Boss nau... because it’s going to be wow!” The promo has 227,909 views.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!

After delivering a winner with the ‘stammering stand-up comic’ ad, Nescafe has come up with a new TVC called ‘Cartoonist’. The 90-seconder stars Vikrant Massey — Dil Dhadakne Do’s Rana — as a cartoonist whose services are no longer required by the newspaper he works in. Demoralised, he finds his life in a shambles. But sipping on his regular cup of coffee, he hits upon the idea of publishing his cartoons online. His work goes viral, with his cartoons finding their way to even shoes and umbrellas. “So coffee lagao aur bas lag jao,” says the ad as the popular Nescafe jingle plays out. INSTA TALKING POINT

BECAUSE I’M A DUDE!

“Instagram is about dudes lookin’ at pretty girls, that’s basically it. I’m just sayin’ that, of course girls like lookin’ at dudes, but it’s not the same as how much dudes like lookin’ at chicks.” That’s what Justin Bieber had to say about Taylor Swift becoming the Queen of Instagram, stealing the crown from Kim Kardashian. With 38.2 million followers (Tay has 45.9 million to Kim K’s 45.7 million), the Where Are U Now singer has made it clear why he’s not on top. “Because I’m a dude,” he told New York’s Z100 radio station, without reminding listeners that his “butt on a boat” Insta post from July 6 did earn him backers by the thousands!
