Neeraj Vora, the writer of cult comedy hits Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri, which he also directed, passed away on Thursday after prolonged illness. Vora, 54, was in coma for more than a year after suffering a heart attack and was being treated at a special ICU set up in producer Firoz Nadiadwala’s house.
Vora was supposed to direct Hera Pheri 3 before he took ill. He had also written the first two films in the Golmaal franchise.
With Vora’s death, a cloud has been cast on Hera Pheri 3. The Woods takes a look at some projects that remained unfinished/unreleased owing to the director’s death.
Dus, Mukul S. Anand
This was the maverick Anand’s most ambitious project. It starred Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Shilpa Shetty and Vinod Khanna. The film was mid-way through production when Anand passed away.
Jaana Na Dil Se Door, Vijay Anand
Goldie Anand had started shooting with two new faces, Indrani and Rajeshwar, but he could never complete it.
Love and God, K. Asif
After making Mughal-E-Azam, Asif had started work on Love and God in 1963. The project, with Guru Dutt abd Nimmi, was jinxed from the start. Dutt died, leading to a reshoot with Sanjeev Kumar. Asif then passed away leaving the film incomplete. In 1986, K.C. Bokadia released the incomplete film.
